PEKiP® is the German abbreviation for Prager Eltern Kind Programm / Prague Parent Child Program, named in honor of psychologist Dr. Jaroslav Koch who developed the activities at the Institute for Mother and Child in Prague. He worked with children for almost 50 years with a research focus on infant psychology. German Professors Christa and Hans Ruppelt took Dr. Koch’s findings a step further. Based on the idea of prevention and education for parents and their baby, they developed PEKiP® in cooperation with social workers and nurses in the early 70s.
Standards
-
A class is designed for a maximum of eight babies of similar age and eight parents (one parent per baby).
-
Classes usually stay together during baby’s first year of life.
-
Babies can start a class at the early age of 4-6 weeks or later.
-
Sessions are held once a week in a warm environment.
-
To challenge body awareness and enhance bonding with the parent, babies are free of restrictive clothing during classes.
-
Classes are taught by a certified and licensed PEKiP® instructor.
-
A doll will be used by the instructor for demonstrations of activities.
Most importantly, the baby and the parent will enjoy wonderful moments in a fun, relaxed and supportive class.
For over four decades, PEKiP® has been the most reliable and successful baby parent program across the German speaking countries of Europe. The program offers playful encouragements and activities for a baby during the first year of life. PEKiP® was designed to be flexible and easy to use in a way that it could be effortlessly integrated into the care of infants at home.
